E3 2010 - The Saga Continues!!!

Labels: E3 2010 intro
The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3 for short) is the ultimate expo for videogame companies to show and demonstrate their wares. Very few are let in, especially this year. I will do my best to bring the show into your home with pictures, reviews, and observations. So sit back, relax, and be happy that you didn't have to go all the way to Los Angeles to enjoy E3!

So far, from watching the GT coverage of the M$, Ubi and EA press conferences, I am pretty underwhelmed by Microsoft's Kinect motion controller camera. It's still early days, though, and I think it has potential (particularly for some kind of "hybrid" use with a traditional controller). Pretty shameless use of the name "Kinect Sports" though; Nintendo shareholders thus did weep.
A few of the other things that stood out from the coverage (and stuff I'm hoping you'll stumble across in your travels) are Eric Chahi's "Project Dust" for PSN/XBL, Rayman Origins (mainly for the luscious 2D artwork), previous Indie games winner Limbo and Ghost Recon Future Soldier. I can't help but love the pixelatedness of the Scott Pilgrim game and while the new rendered Old Republic trailer looked great, it's somehow not as cool as the original one-- plus it's still going to be some crappy MMO based on the gameplay videos I've seen and is not likely to challenge Blizzard's behemoth. Speaking of rendered trailers, I did really enjoy the Force Unleashed II's entry-- and only recently realized that the character is modelled on a real actor! I guess that's one way around the uncanny valley.
For me, the whole FPS thing has about run its course. Both Call of Duty Black Ops and Medal of Honor look kind of boring to me. About the only FPS that piqued my interest were the aforementioned GR:Future Soldier and also Battlefield Bad Company 2: Vietnam. Even Crysis 2 failed to generate much interest (I'm sure it's just me, though).
Good luck and have fun at the show... and physician, don't forget to heal thyself (especially your barking dogs at the end of the day!).
Ooh! Ooh! I just remembered a couple more. You might enjoy the sights and sounds of Castlevania HD and the new Deus Ex game, Human Revolution. Nuff said (for now)!
One more-- I swear, one more that you must look out for: the Studio Ghibli Level 5 joint "Ni no Kuni" or "The Another World".
Oh yeah-- and Last Guardian (from Team ICO). I wonder how many of these are already on your list?!
